About Dr. Sanford

Chiropractic Career:
Dr. Sanford was introduced to chiropractic care during his palying days with the New England Patriots after sustaining injuries that did not respond to traditional treatments. He began taking courses during the off season to prepare for his chiropractic career. Dr. Sanford attended Life University School of Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia. He graduated in 1989 with a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree and has been in private practice since 1990. Dr. Sanford is a member of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association, the N.F.L. Retired Players Asociation, and the N.F.L. Alumni Association.

Football Career:
Dr. Rick Sanford attended the University of South Carolina on an athletic football scholarship, where he excelled as a defensive back. He was named as a preseason All-American in 1978, and was chosen as a postseason All American following the 1978 season. Dr. Rick Sanford was then chosen by the New England Patriots as the 25th overall selection in the first round of the 1979 NFL draft. He was the first football player chosen in the N.F.L. draft's first round in University of South Carolina football history. He played seven years in the NFL and was named to the 1983 All-Pro team, during which he tied the NFL lead in interceptions with a total of seven. He still holds the record for the longest interception return in Soldier Field (Chicago) history, with a return of 99 yards versus the Chicago Bears in 1982. As a result of his outstanding football career, Dr. Sanford received numerous injuries and is well known in the sports field for his ability to rehabilitate injuries.


Personal Information:
Dr. Sanford has two beautiful daughters, ages 21 and 25. He currently resides in Irmo, South Carolina. He enjoys all types of physical activity including yoga, pilates, running and snow skiing. Dr. Sanford also enjoys reading books on faith and leadership.

Power Pilates:

Dr. Sanford has been taking Pilates classes for two years now and discovered its effectiveness in building long, lean, strong core muscles. As result of his training in fields of Chiropactic care and Pilates training, Dr. Sanford strongly believes that strong core muscles help to stabilize the spine therefore decreasing back pain and increasing your long term functioning.

Dr. Sanford recently became certified through Classical Power Pilates to teach Mat classes in Boston, MA. He will obtain his apparatus certification in July 2009 while training intensively in New York City. He has worked with several Internationally known Power Pilates Instructors to gain his certification. He has also worked with Dr. Howard Sichel, a fellow Chiropractor and founder of Power Pilates, during his certification process.
